One Last Bloody Gasp is a top down full scrolling NES game.
An expert swordsman in feudal Japan, you loyally follow the command of your Daimyo.
While resting at home in the small village outside the Daimyo's castle, you are set upon by your comrades.
Betrayed by your clan, they take three things - Your arm, your eye, and your wife.
You know you won't last long with your injuries.
It's time for revenge. It's time for One Last Bloody Gasp.

One Last Bloody Gasp will have you fight your way through an open-world Japanese castle in a top-down metroidvania format to discover how and why you were betrayed, and to get as much bloody vengeance as you can manage before you succumb to your wounds.

can I suggest having the space outside the walls filled in with some sort of psychedelic/ghostly effect. similar to Hotline Miami but more to reinforce the era, the setting, and the physical and mental state of the character via abstract effects
